When it comes to physical attractiveness, every person has their own perception of what beauty is. Theoretically, symmetrical eyes, high cheekbones, and a gently rounded chin can comprise an ideal female facial appearance. In fact, the greatest determiners of true beauty are the eyes, mouth (and smile), hair, and the skin quality. Although the nose is located in the center of the face, it should neither be the center of attention nor a distraction; the nose should be harmonious with the person’s other facial features in order to direct attention to them.
Although some people are fortunate enough to be born with an aesthetically pleasing and harmonious nose, many are not as lucky and have a nose that distracts from their true beauty. In addition, aging can cause aesthetic changes to the nose. As a person ages, the tip of the nose may begin to droop and make the nose appear larger. Aging can also cause a preexisting bump on the bridge of the nose to look bigger. For these reasons, Dr. Zimm regularly performs rhinoplasty (“Nose Job”) for people of all ages. With the rhinoplasty procedure, Dr. Zimm is able to correct deformities and give his patients a nose that is in balance with their other facial features to greatly improve their appearance.
During your consultation, Dr. Zimm will fully evaluate the outer and inner structure of your nose and discuss your goals and desires. Using advanced simulation software, Dr. Zimm will be able to give you an idea how your nose might appear after rhinoplasty.
Dr. Zimm knows that every person’s nose and face are unique, which is why he offers a customized approach for every patient to ensure the highest possible patient satisfaction rate.

Dr. Zimm primarily performs “open” rhinoplasties. After an incision is made in the columella (the small column of skin that separates the nostrils), the nasal skin is lifted, and the underlying bone and cartilage are sculpted to create a new shape. The skin is then redraped over the new nasal frame, and all incisions are closed. The external incision heals very well and is almost always imperceptible.
Dr. Zimm occasionally performs “closed” rhinoplasty if the patient only needs a small correction. With the closed procedure, incisions are only made inside the nose.
If there is a defect with the function of your nose, such as a deviated septum, a septoplasty may be performed at the same time as the rhinoplasty. Although the portion of your surgery to correct nasal function (septoplasty) may be covered by health insurance, the cosmetic portion (rhinoplasty) is not covered.
Revision rhinoplasty is an even more intricate and complex procedure due to scarring and a depletion of cartilage in the nose from the primary rhinoplasty procedure. Revision rhinoplasty requires a rhinoplasty specialist with great skill, sophistication, and attention to detail to provide beautiful and natural-looking results.
Dr. Zimm carries a wide range of injectable fillers, such as such as JUVÉDERM®, Restylane®, RADIESSE®, and BELOTERO BALANCE®, which can improve minor imperfections on or around the nose. This procedure takes approximately 15 minutes to complete, and the results will last between 12 and 18 months.

Yes, all surgical rhinoplasty procedures are performed with the patient under general anesthesia. A combination of topical and local anesthesia is used during non-surgical rhinoplasties.
Rhinoplasty is done on an outpatient basis and can usually be completed within two to four hours, depending on the complexity of the surgery.
During an open rhinoplasty, an incision is made underneath the tip of the nose on the skin between the nostrils, where the resulting scar will be imperceptible. In a closed rhinoplasty, incisions are only made inside the nose.
A small external splint will be placed on the bridge of the nose. Prescribed medication can be taken to relieve any discomfort that may be apparent after surgery, and it is important to keep the head elevated during the first five to seven days to reduce swelling. In most cases, patients are able to return to school or work about one week after surgery. They may begin light cardiovascular exercises after two weeks and resume full cardiovascular exercises three weeks after surgery.
Because rhinoplasty is very commonly performed, there is often speculative information about the procedure that is not completely true. For this reason, Dr. Zimm has assembled a list of common myths about rhinoplasty that can further improve your knowledge about the procedure before you visit our New York practice for your consultation.
